Windows Vista Release Candidate 2
PROS: Additional finish work complete; better hardware and software compatibility
CONS: Not available outside of beta tester and Microsoft communities
RECOMMENDATIONS: Windows Vista Release Candidate 2 (RC2) was unexpected: Microsoft previously said that RC1 would be the final major prerelease version of the next-generation OS. Unlike RC1, RC2 isn't available to a wide range of testers. Only technical beta testers, MSDN and TechNet subscribers, certain Microsoft partners, and customers already in the Vista Customer Preview Program (CPP) can access RC2. After RC2, Microsoft will fine-tune Vista for its widespread rollout in January 2007.

Sticking with Windows XP
PROS: Putting off migrating to Vista means you get more out of your XP investment and avoid upgrade headaches
CONS: Some new Vista features will never be back-ported to Windows XP
RECOMMENDATIONS: Microsoft's five-year-old Windows XP is still better than Windows Vista for consumers, small-to-midsized businesses (SMBs), and even enterprises wanting to get the most out of current hardware and software investments. With some creativity, you can duplicate most of Vista's best features using readily available applications and services.
