Troubleshooter: Documenting the Exchange Tracking-Log Format

Windows IT Pro
InstantDoc ID #38876

How can I document the Exchange Server tracking-log format?

You can always use the text editor of your choice to open the log files. The log files will appear as tab-delimited text files. The format, however, varies between Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange Server 5.5.

The Microsoft article "XADM: Message Tracking Logs Field Descriptions in Exchange 2000 Server" (http://support.microsoft.com/

kbid=246965) describes the Exchange 2000 log-file format. Exchange Server 2003 adds some message status codes, but the basic format of the logs is the same as in Exchange 2000.
