Reader Challenge September 2010

The September 2010 Challenge

This month I'm responding to reader mail, so I have an announcement in addition to the Reader Challenge. Many administrators have asked if they can use the challenges internally in their IT departments (for fun or for "testing"). Windows IT Pro has no objection to this, as long as you state/print the source as Windows IT Pro UPDATE.

This month's Reader Challenge is also in response to mail from readers. Can you answer the following question, which was asked by numerous readers?

I use Remote Desktop often, and I configure the Remote Desktop session to send all keystrokes to the remote computer. However, when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, the resulting action is performed on my computer, not the remote computer. What configuration option am I missing?

Answer

The Ctrl+Alt+Del sequence isn't considered a standard keystroke and is never sent to a remote computer when you're working in a Remote Desktop session. To perform the Ctrl+Alt+Del action on the remote computer, use the sequence Ctrl+Alt+End.
