Somehow I missed that the print subscribers were being forced to digital. Maybe I just ignored it. Regardless, I just got my first digital copy and fired off my cancellation request minutes later. Such a shame Pentom had to go this route.]]>

Sorry but I can't agree with you. As a 40 year professional I love being able to take my hard copy with me to the car dealer while I'm getting the oil changed, sitting outside on the porch, and a host of other activities. No need to worry about batteries or someone stealing my laptop or e-reader. And I can use my highlighter, make margin notes and even readily loan to some else to review an article. Are you going to offer prorated refunds???]]>

Comment from Amy Eisenberg: "The reality is that most of our subscribers were already reading the digital editions" From what I can see in the comments of this article and Paul's (http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/news2/windows-it-pro-digital-magazine-142409), most subscribers are NOT using the digital edition and are happy with the print. Why wouldn't you offer a print-only edition even at a higher cost to keep your subscriber base that has supported a physical copy all these years?]]>

Well digital is cool. Multimedia is sux. I am currently reading PDF digital edition in subway. Quite bad fit to my reader, but still possible. Will I need iPad for new content? Or should it be Windows 8 tablet/Windows Phone 7? Make it simple - make EPUB file with light illustrations. I've got other tasks then I am sitting on my desk with PC.]]>

The more I think about it the angrier and more frustrated I feel. I can currently access quite a bit of superior Windows oriented material on the web - for free. There is probably more content available free on the web than I could ever consume. So why would I want to pay a hefty subscription price for the privilege of reading yet more Windows content while sitting at my computer. Unless someone can give me a compelling reason not to, I'll be contacting customer service to cancel my print subscription and demanding a refund for the issues for which I paid and Penton will not deliver.]]>

So in my previous comment I mentioned that i was now going to have to buy some sort of device on which to read this magazine if I don't want to be in front of a computer. A WinIT Pro employee saw my comment and very helpfully sent a link to http://www.texterity.com, which is apparently the platform on which the new digital edition is being developed. On that web site I see apps for reading magazines on iPhone, iPad, Android and Kindle Fire devices, but I'm not willing to shell out hundreds of dollars so I can read a magazine. What about a regular Kindle - will the digital edition be usable on it? Is there any kind of guidance available? Once again I ask - can you provide a sample edition? Perhaps even just a scaled down edition with a couple of articles so I can see how it looks on a Kindle. I did borrow a friend's Kindle Fire and tried reading on it and while it's a nice device I found it A: bit heavy after a while if holding it up to read while in a reclining position; B: has too much glare on the screen - couldn't get rid of the reflection of ceiling lights on the screen; and C: kind of hard on the eyes after a while, probably due to the back lighting. So for me it was a totally unsatisfactory experience compared with the print version. As far as reading it on a regular Kindle, I just don't see how that will work. because of the small screen not much content will be visible at a time - it will be impossible to read the text of an article while simultaneously referring to a chart or screenshot. There is a completely different reading experience when you have a full size magazine open so you can see two pages all at once. You can very quickly take in many details at once - the main points indicated by bold text and paragraph headings; information in charts and graphs; the length of the article; sidebars; summaries, etc. This is completely superior to having to scroll through small pieces of an article on a small screen. ]]>

First, I have been a subscriber I believe for about 10 years now. Second, many people prefer a print version over a digital version because they feel they bought something [substance]. It's why some (like me) still prefer to buy a Cd rather than purchase digital music. Third, there was actually little warning of the change. With most subscribers [I would assume here] buying a yearly subscription, the warning of the change of format should of been made last fall. Forth, while the digital edition may have some advantages, I can't see many reading it on a smartphone [and trying to view images from the story. Fifth, as there has been a change in format, Pentontech should of given current subscribers [at least those who renewed just prior to the announcement] the option of cancelling their subscription and receiving a refund. While others could receive some type of credit [i.e. extend the subscription]. Judging by the reaction here [and the digital edition hasn't even come out yet], the Windows IT Pro subscriber base will shrink - which isn't good as some advertisers may also jump ship if the subscription base declines. ]]>

I am also VERY upset about this going digital. I signed up for a long term subscription for this to be surprised on us is absolutely unacceptable. I was an Exchange Newsletter subscriber which was something like $150/yr, and that went digital and I cancelled it. The same will happen for Windows IT Pro. I do NOT want another electronic way to read this content. I plan to cancel it and demand my money back. If I did want an "e-format" magazine, since I could easily use one of the many free Exchange focused websites. This is a big mistake. Sad to see Windows IT Pro magazine disappear....]]>

When PC mag went digital I let my subscript expire. I haven't looked at Technet magazine since they went all digital. Now Win IT Pro too? I hate reading magazine type content on a PC screen. By the end of the workday, when I want to relax and read some tech stuff, I want to be as far away from a computer as possible. I've resisted buying a Kindle, Nook or any other type of e reader or tablet until now. OK, I give up. I'll have to now buy a device on which to read my magazines. Thanks for costing me more money. Anyway, any chance of getting access to a digital edition before April so i can see what it looks like on different e readers and make a buying decision? It's not like it will really cost you any more than you are costing me to give one overlapping issue. Thanks.]]>

I'll try to address everyone's questions here. But feel free to contact me directly at amy@windowsitpro.com if you still have questions on any of this. 1. Yes, you can download the digital issue to read offline. 2. Apps for android and iOS tablets and smartphones will be launched with the May issue. More information about downloading the apps will be forthcoming as we get closer to publication date. I'm not sure about a Windows Phone app and will have to get back to you on that. 3. Thank you, @stalar, for pointing out the error regarding Adobe Acrobat. You are correct, you need Adobe Reader only, and we will correct the page. 4. We plan to continue to produce our semi-annual DVD archives that VIP subscribers receive. ]]>

Its called bait and switch guys. If I signed up for the print edition and you KNEW you were doing this and didn't give me the option at the point of sale of buying the new digital or the print edition or a combination there of as MY choice, then your forcing me to buy something I don't want. Don't give us the song and dance about staying in print longer either after years of glueing in ads and increasing the ads in the magazine, there are plenty of magazines in print still and plenty of market share for both digital and print editions as well as choice. I'm going to choose a print edition and from what i've read from responses there are plenty of subscribers who feel the same way.]]>

As a digital subscriber for the last couple of years, I probably won't notice any difference. I regularly download the pdfs to read "later" - whenever that might be. The main reason for subscribing is the full access to the newsletters. The announcement in http://www.windowsitpro.com/announcements/subscriber seems to be inaccurate. This is a terrible idea. I have had a subscription to this magazine for 5+ years, including VIP, for the very point of having a physical issue I can read without relying on a device that has a battery that drains and strains the eyes to read. As a SysAdmin that is required to spend my workday on computer, I do not want to be required to spend my free time reading a computer screen or forced to buy an e-reader just to view the content I've enjoyed for so many years in physical format. Electronic content is not a better solution to hardcopy magazine due to electricity requirements, internet access, website maintenance, purchasing an e-reader, eye strain etc. When Exchange & Outlook Administrator changed from a physical printing to electronic-only issues, I canceled my subscription since I pay money for the professional prints that are properly bound and I can reference even if the power is off. If WindowsITPro magazine is also forcing its subscribers to only receive electronic issues, I will not be continuing my subscription after the last print issue.]]>

I hear your concerns about the digital issues. We are very proud of the fact that we were able to remain in print all these years when many of our competitors quit long ago. And we certainly appreciate that readers spend time with our articles in their off-hours. The reality is that most of our subscribers were already reading the digital editions. However, the digital editions we deliver today do not take advantage of the technology available. So when we shift to all digital in May, you'll see a dramatically different digital edition, and I hope you'll give it another look. You will be able to enlarge and reduce type on the fly. You will be able to browse the TOC and jump to different articles. You can download to read offline and also print pages as needed. Apps will be available to read the magazine on a tablet. And we are exploring additional app possibilities to help you read our content in a more customized form factor in the future. Thank you all for reading and being part of the Windows IT Pro community. ]]>

It's terrible...I love take my printed magazine with me when I travel or have some free time at home and I dont like to take out my laptop each time when I have some hour for reading...Also it is magazine not encyclopedia and I just read it to get some ideas, therefore new "online searching and reviewing features" is not important for me...
