The DTS Development Guidehttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/odbc/the-dts-development-guide#commentsAnchorThu, 04 Mar 2004 08:46:47 GMT
The Transformation ActiveX script is where it gets confusing for me (which wasn’t discussed very well except for the fact that it must return one of the query-type constants). Does the actual copying of values from the Source To Destination take place in the Transformation script, and then the parameterized Query over-rides or adds to what was done in the Transformation script. In all that I’ve read about DTS’ DDQs this link between what code gets executed in the Transformation script and the parameterized query is extremely cloudy or just overlooked.]]>

I want to use a comma delimited list as my source and insert the data into an SQL server 2000 table. Here is my problem: The list is not always going to be named the same thing and I also need to run a SP during the insert to check and see if the data from the list already exists in the table. There will be many rows of data from the lists that will be inserted and many will not because they are already present in the table. Can you help me?]]>

DTS: Error Handling Revealedhttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/activex/dts-error-handling-revealed#commentsAnchorThu, 01 May 2003 07:41:03 GMT
I currently have several datapump tasks which move SQL Server 2000 table data to several access tables. I have an ActiveX Task in the same package which emails a note when executed. The issue is that I can’t seem to set the task workflow up in a way that would allow the email task to only execute if ALL tasks were successful. In addition, I have an "error" email task and I am finding it difficult to setup the workflow in a way that would allow the "error" email to be executed if ANY ONE of the several datapump tasks fail. Do you have any advice? Thank you! - NW]]>

Hi I have been trying for quite sometime now, to execute a DTS Package saved on my server under Local packages, from the command prompt using a batch file. It doesn’t execute. It opensup a separate window but it doesn’t execute. The syntax i had used to get it executed is as follows cmd /c \\abcdefghi\MSSQL7\binn\dtsrun /S abcdefghi /E /N P1 I had tried all combinations of flags for instance , saving it as a file and running and using USERID etc. But it doesn’t seem to work. The server configuration we have is as follows.. It’s a Winnt CLUSTER of 2 servers , which i am accessing through their virtual Names. Some one told me that you cannot invoke the DTCRUN application on a virtual server. If this is true how do you schedule the package. Please help.]]>

Thanks for this article. It was really very informative, and several VB apps I was using as .exe in packages are now comfortably wrapped as custom tasks in packages. However , I am running across a major problem with these custom tasks. If this task is nestled in a package, and if it errored out because of any reason such as missing parameters etc, I see that after it reports an error I cannot delete this custom task and even I could I see that SQL server throws an exception and terminates abnormally. Any ideas why this might be happening?!!]]>

It is a nice article, but the sample code don’t work with SQL Server 2000. The method CXMLDoc::Execute didn’t write in the destination column.
