I use a DROP TABLE `results` (Execute SQL Task) as the first step of the DTS package (where "results" is the name of the sheet that contains the data in the excel spreadsheet). Make sure you set it to the Excel file connection (in my case, connection 2).]]>

Although slightly more complicated, using a second table with a Unique index would help keep performance optimized regardless on the size on the base table: CREATE TABLE BaseTable( pkid int IDENTITY, data1 varchar(10) NULL, unique1 int NULL ) GO ALTER TABLE BaseTable ADD CONSTRAINT pk_BaseTable PRIMARY KEY ( pkid) GO CREATE TABLE UniqueTable( unique1 int NOT NULL ) GO ALTER TABLE UniqueTable ADD CONSTRAINT pk_UniqueTable PRIMARY KEY ( unique1) GO CREATE TRIGGER tr_BaseTable_iud ON BaseTable FOR INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE AS SET NOCOUNT ON DELETE FROM ut FROM dbo.UniqueTable ut JOIN deleted d ON ut.unique1 = d.unique1 LEFT JOIN inserted i ON d.pkid = i.pkid WHERE i.pkid IS NULL UPDATE ut SET ut.unique1 = i.unique1 FROM dbo.UniqueTable ut JOIN deleted d ON ut.unique1 = d.unique1 JOIN inserted i ON d.pkid = i.pkid WHERE d.unique1 <> i.unique1 INSERT INTO dbo.UniqueTable SELECT i.unique1 FROM inserted i LEFT JOIN deleted d ON i.pkid = d.pkid WHERE d.pkid IS NULL AND i.unique1 IS NOT NULL GO]]>

On the script for how to pad out the spaces on a variable length column, I use a different approach. The method shown works only if all of the data in the column is a known quantity. The following script does the same job but is more flexible: UPDATE mytable1 SET c1 = CONVERT(char(220), c1) or UPDATE mytable1 SET c1 = CAST( c1 as char(220) )]]>

I am using ASP to validate the user’s Login_name and Password in the SQL database. But the ASP contain the database, ID, password of the SQL data. I think it is NOT secure to keep these info in the ASP code, what is best solution. See my ASP code below: Set Cn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Cn.Open "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Server=xx.xxx.xxx.x;" & "Database=xxxx;User Id=xxxx;Password=xxxx;" Set Rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") strDB = "execute sp_login ’" & strUserName & "’" & ",’" & strPassword & "’" Rs.Open strDB, Cn, 0, 1 if (Not RS.EOF) then if (RS("acc_lock")<>True) Then if (Trim(Rs("password"))=strPassword) Then ’User is validated!]]>

You used to be able to use Visual Interdev (data project) and Visual Source Safe to control stored procedures and it works well. You may have noticed dt_.... stored procedures appearing in your database, these are put there by interdev for this purpose. However you need to install interdev server and a few other bits. Look at ReadMevi.htm on Disk1 of Visual Studio 6.]]>
