It is possible you typed the address incorrectly, or the page may no longer exist. Hi, Even i have been working for a while for a solution to this PIM and mail syncronization. Would like to know if there is any server side solution to this for example a software/service that can be installed on Domino and using the POP3 on my PDA with outlook as the client, the data should auomatically synchronized. This would decrease the implementation cost on customers handsets and N/w admins can concetrate on server only. Thank you Sriram]]>

A Tale of Three Telnetshttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/telnet/a-tale-of-three-telnets#commentsAnchorWed, 04 May 2005 01:14:04 GMT
Just a comment here, back when I used 9x 3.1 I hated with absolute passion the telnet client that came with windows, and raved repeatedly everywere how terrible it truely was, I needed command line telnet abilities, so I had to configure pktdrv and use just as lame dos programs, I’m very glad to see the new command line based telnet in windows, it is a step forward, though they could improve on the features availibe in "dos box" windows. ]]>

Rethinking NTFShttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/file-systems/rethinking-ntfs#commentsAnchorTue, 03 May 2005 14:12:53 GMT
Windows XP is NTFS 5... That should be obvious for two reasons: #1. WinXP offers both Disk Compression and Quotas, which the article states were new features in NTFS 5. Therefore logic clearly dictates that WinXP must use NTFS 5. #2. WinXP came out after Win2000, so we’d expect it to have all the newest stuff (ie: If Win2000 had it, then WinXP should also have it... Win2000 had NTFS 5...)]]>

I used Parttion Majic to repartition my W2k system and created a Fat32 partition. I installed W98 on this partition using W98 startup disk and CD. Next I tried to restart using W2k boot disks(4 nos). After 4th disk when setup tried restart a blue screen appeared with unkown hard error-ntdll (?). I tried 3 times. Once it was able give me the option to use the repair disk but eventually could start W2k. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated. PKS]]>

I’m the same person who posted the problem above. Well it’s solved now, and quite simply too. I booted my computer from the win2000 CD, chose the ’repair existing installation’ option and then the ’emergency repair’ option. The win2000 repair setup started giving me names of files that were not in the same condition as when Win2000 was first installed and asked if they should be repaired. I said ’yes to all’ and the problem was history. Both win98 and win2000 are working properly. ]]>

Dual-Boot Blueshttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/interoperability/dual-boot-blues#commentsAnchorThu, 27 Jan 2005 12:08:31 GMT
I have a dual boot with win98 and win2000. It worked smoothly for a few weeks until one day Norton AntiVirus (installed on win98) gave the warning that some program had changed the boot record and recommended that the previous record be restored. I suspected a virus, so I gave it the go ahead. What happens now is that win98 automatically boots on atartup and I no longer get a choice between win98 and win2000. Strangely enough, the contents of the boot.ini file seem to be the same as before (when dual boot was working properly): [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect C:\ = "Microsoft Windows" Any help would be very welcome.]]>

Here it is 2005 with the richness of wireless connectivity and now mnufacturers are leaving behind the IR port on new latops. Just as I happily sync both my PPC 2003 and palm devices I upgrade to XP SP2 and a new machine and lose my virtual serial IR port and have to contend with an IR dongle and quasi networking to connect. I mat never get it working. Back to carrying cables. Considering building IR onto a USB-serial bridge dongle. The XT PC wasn’t any worse in frustration!]]>

Dual-Boot Blueshttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/interoperability/dual-boot-blues#commentsAnchorTue, 30 Nov 2004 23:59:23 GMT
Very thorough. Except for the multiple variations it brings up. I have an 80gig drive with win98, that became corrupted (3 parts). After major pain, it will boot, but some part of explorer is trashed, so I can’t use it directly (My Computer, etc.) It is a vxd error of some kind. Anyway, I have a copy of the same config of win98 on a 30gig drive (but 2 years older - 3 partitions, also). Tried copying missing directories and dlls that might have been trashed. No luck. What would be ideal is to dual boot from disk1 or disk2 (ideally, mount the partitions as I see fit, as if it were a real operating system,) until I get disk2 working again. I wouldn’t mind upgrading the 80gig drive to w2k, but you leave open the question of telling w2k setup that, no, I don’t want you to trash disk1, but yes, upgrade disk2. Seems my best bet is to use a linux floppy to boot, or to put ntldr and the w2k bootsector on the first drive with a boot.ini loading either of two win98’s. I’m sort of bent on fixing that drive, tired of flipping jumpers, tired of registry problems and unable to run certain apps on the usual shifted partitions. Alot happens in two years and I doubt I could find intalls for everything. Tried restoring the 80gig reg to the 30gig c: drive, but that has it’s problems as well. I’ll let you know...]]>

I am unable to install ActiveSync. I have version 3.71 and when i click on .exe file, it begind to unpack but then stops and dissapears as if it gves up. The installation tries to continue as i swtch the computer off but then an error message appears stating that installation cannot continue as windows is shutting down. I am running XP (i don’t know if that is relevant or not) now on my new computer and am using a usb cable to ipaq. When i used the cradle and 98 on my old computer, i had no problems what so ever. Please please please help. I have important information contained on my Ipaq that needs to be transfered ASAP. Also, i have tried to connect via infra red my Ipaq and my phone, Sony ericsson T610. I get a message on the Ipaq saying that it is connecting to T610 but the phone says it cannot detect a device. I only attempted this to try and use my phone as a median to avoid the other problem so this is more of an aside to the most relevant thing about ActiveSync. Thankyou, Tom]]>

I think the article makes sense - I’ve used a couple of PDAs, both as a user and as a developer, and at times I am fustrated with the size and limited functionality they offer. A smaller, lightweight tablet PC, with combined cards for local WiFi and roaming 3G/GPRS (like the Vodafone 3G card) would be a killer platform. Combined with a skinnable GUI, or even remote applications, a product like this would be perfect for all sorts of people, especially with its hand-writing recognition, and would (IMHO) eventually make high-end PDAs redundant.]]>
