DHCP User Class and Vendor Class Optionshttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/dhcp2/dhcp-user-class-and-vendor-class-options-7983#commentsAnchorTue, 04 Aug 2009 10:37:55 GMT
I was wondering about the ramifications of implementing the ClassIDs for purposes of rudimentary NAC. If all the domain computers were to be set to use a proper User Class ID scope and the non-ClassID scope to be configured with intentionally wrongly configured gateway and DNS addresses, this would prevent rogue devices from joining the network upon jacking in. However, a company laptop would not be able to get an IP address anywhere outside the corporate network, unless the Class ID is removed, and the users are given administrative rights on the laptops to do so. I was trying to verify that this is the case, but there is no mention of this in your article. It should have been covered.]]>

NOTE: I apologize for my English.. ---------------------------------- I’ve the STOP: 0x0000007B "Inaccessible_Boot_Device" problem, restarting after the first Win2k setup "step" (Setup files copy). I’m searching for a soluction to my problem.. My Mobo is a ECS Elitegroup K7S5A, my HD a 40GB Maxtor D540X-4K, My Graphic Card a GeForce2 MX 200-32MB, my DVD-Rom a LG DRD-8160B. System now working with 128MB of RAM, with one 128 SDRAM 133Mhz module. I’ve already try to exclude and replace (when applicable) some of thes devices (RAM and DVD-Rom), Mobo excluded (but ’ve update the BIOS), but the problem left. The next step is replace the HD*, but I’m now supposing that the problem maybe in the MOBO IDE controller or, hovewer, in some Mobo incompatibilies.. Someone can Help me? PS: I’ve made a test; using THIS HD, on another PC, I’ve correctly complete that "step" of Win2K Setup, without errors..]]>

Is converting to dynamic disks the only way to get RAID 1 (mirroring) if you don’t have a mainboard or adapter card RAID 0/1 controller? I have 2 Samsung 80GB SATA drives & I just setup WinXP Pro SP2 on the first drive, divided into a 30GB C: primary partion & a 45+GB D: pri part. The 2nd drive is so-far unpartitioned. When I read this article it seams to say that to mirror C & D to the 2nd drive it has to be converted to a dynamic volume which will do away with the C & D partition. I really don’t want that. Is there another way to get my C & D part’s mirrored using Windows disk mgt? Thanks for the help...]]>

Reddy from India I found this at http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=87485&r=a I had the same problem and found this solution and it worked!! Solution: (1) Go to (Start) (2) Then go to (Control Panel) (3) Search for (Network and Internet Connections) or (Network Connections) or (Dial-up Connections) (4) Then you should see two sticking monitor icon, named (Local Area Connection). Right click on it then choose (Propertise) (5) Then when you are in the Local Area Connections Properties dialog box, click on the (Client services for Netware) and it will be highlighted, then only you’ll click (uninstall) (6) And then for sure you click (YES) that’s wat you wan, right!!!? (6) Wahlah, if you can follow the steps until here you are finish, Congratulation, you can proceed to change your settings to the Fast User Switching option or the Welcome Screen option ]]>

Scheduling Windows 2000’s Disk Defragmenterhttp://www.sqlmag.com/article/windows-2000/scheduling-windows-2000-s-disk-defragmenter#commentsAnchorFri, 04 Mar 2005 18:18:30 GMT
Something that is seems to continually be overlooked is that using task schedular you can only run interactive i.e. you must be logged on. This wont work for any true IT enviorment. My fix is this: I used a program called DIRMS (http://www.dirms.com/) and a light weight programming language called Winbatch. You can use VB or C+ as well. I pasted the code below for the service piece. ******************** time_current=TimeYmdHms ( ) cur_tm4=ItemExtract(4, time_current, ":") if cur_tm4 != 00 add= 24 - cur_tm4 time_wait=TimeAdd(time_current,"0000:00:00:%add%:00:00") TimeWait(time_wait) RunHideWait("c:\Program Files\Dirms\dirms.exe","c -q") else RunHideWait("c:\Program Files\Dirms\dirms.exe","c -q") endif ************************** once you have something similar in the langauge of your choice compile it to an ".exe" file. Then use something like "srvany" (instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;137890) to install the exe as a service then the defrag can happen at any time you choose and in the background whether your logged on or not. ]]>

Lets say your Windows Network is infected by a worm and you can’t connect new machines without them getting infected (as happened to me recently). Make it easy. For those that are in corps that do NOT like .vbs run in the servers, create a schedule for AutoDefrag.exe to run a specified time, then create a second schedule to kill autodefrag.exe, mmc.exe and dfrgntfs.exe. This allows you to schedule a start and stop time without any hitches. Cheers...]]>

At the same time there were in fact packets leaving my computer to unknown destinations when the lines were hooked up. Do you have any reasonable or rational explanation for what may have happened. This answer would enlighten some sense to this mystery. Appreciate any response. " I have that problem at the moment.
