Q. How can I check if a process is running under a different OS context through application compatibility shims?

A. To help resolve certain application compatibility problems, applications are sometimes run with compatibility shims that allow the application to run as if it's using a previous version of Windows. If you want to view which OS your applications think they're running under, you can use Resource Monitor (Start, Accessories, System Tools) and add the Operating System Context column. You can then see the OS the application believes it's running under, as shown below.
