Malware authors are attacking organizations and users by exponentially increasing the number and types of malware, employing evasive polymorphic or packing techniques to fool traditional signature-based blacklisting defenses.
Also, various regulatory or policy mandates call for organizations to control the use of software on endpoints they own. In answer to the threat and compliance landscapes, application control and whitelisting can support a "default deny" security posture that blocks all but "known good" software. However, managing change in the body of known good software and user or platform requirements is challenging and should be addressed by solutions.
This paper explores the application control landscape and the recommend strategies for adoption.
